Lighting Crossroads:
Energy Efficiency Around the World
Other categories of Lighting Crossroads are:
- AKF (Denmark)
- AKF investigates problems that are of interest to the public sector and its users; in particular, problems that are relevant for Danish local governments. Areas of research include: the relationship between public services and institutions and the welfare of
individuals, the public utilization of resources, and the organization and
effectiveness of government and administration.
- CADDET(International)
- CADDET is an International Energy Agency program responsible for
collecting and disseminating information on demonstrated,
energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies. The program focuses
on demonstration projects on full-scale applications of new technologies. By utilizing information from this international information network, you can find out what energy-efficient and renewable energy technologies have worked in other countries and how you can benefit from their application. You can also submit projects on demonstrated energy-saving technologies to be reviewed as potential CADDET products.
- EC Energy Centres (Eastern Europe)
- EC Energy Centres exist to facilitate technology transfer between the
European Community and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Each Centre provides a local focus for promotional activities and for business-to-business co-operation. All the EC Energy Centres are situated in national or regional capitals and most have been established in partnership with a local organisation, enabling them to respond to the needs of industry in that area.
- Energy Crossroads(International)
- Energy Crossroads is Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's contribution to
organizing a wide array of
pointers to energy-efficiency resources on the World Wide Web. Energy
Crossroads currently contains nearly
400 links to other Web sites.
( Includes a list of other lists)
-
Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Network(USA)
The U.S. Department of Energy's index. Emphasizes the US, but includes a
considerable number of international links as well.
- Motiva - Finland Energy
Conservation Program (Finland)
- The Energy Conservation Program in Finland sets targets of
10-15 percent reductions in specific consumption by the year 2005 as compared to 1990 consumption levels. The efficiency targets will be achieved through information and technology.
- National Research
Council (Canada)
- Unit dealing with energy efficiency and indoor air quality are
the Institute for Research
in Construction.
-
Netherlands Agency for Energy and the Environment (Novem)(The Netherlands)
- Novem provides the management for a large number of national and
international programs financed by the Dutch government and the European
Union. The main objectives of these programs are to save energy and improve the
environment.
- New Zealand's Energy Efficiency
and Conservation Authority (EECA)(New Zealand)
- EECA is an independent government agency set up to improve New Zealand's energy efficiency. EECA's activities range from providing policy advice to the government, contributing to energy efficiency legislation and collating energy statistics, to practical initiatives such as the Energy-Wise Companies Campaign, the Energy-Wise Contractors Campaign and the Energy-Wise Practice program.
-
Non-Governmental Energy-Efficiency Organizations in the United States(USA)
- Nutek - Department of Energy
Efficiency
(Sweden)
- NUTEK's Department of Energy Efficiency is the operating
authority for
the seven-year program established by the Swedish Parliament, aimed at
improving
the efficiency of energy use with particular application to electricity.
-
Office of Energy Efficiency
(Canada)
- The OEE is part of the Energy Sector of Natural Resources Canada. It«s mandate is to encourage the efficient use of energy and alternative transportation fuels in the Canadian economy. In support of this, OEE provides policy analysis and advice, and
OEE develops and implements programs promoting energy efficiency and the use of
alternative transportation fuels. These activities are part of the Federal
Government's Efficiency and Alternative Energy (EAE) Program, a key component
of the National Action Program on Climate Change.
-
Thermie(Europe)
- THERMlE is the vehicle chosen by the European Community to change
Europe's approach to energy use by: encouraging market penetration of new technologies; providing a European forum in which information on energy technology can be obtained; encouraging integration of the Community energy market; expanding the market for European energy technologies through activities outside the EU, especially in Central and Eastern Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent
States; strengthening the economic and social cohesion of the Community;
having a positive impact on Europe's environment.
- UK's Energy Efficiency
Office (EEO) - Best Practice Programme (UK)
- Through Best Practice, the EEO collaborates with energy consumers and with those who offer consumers advice, services and techniques to help them improve their energy efficiency. A wide range of guidance literature on energy efficiency in buildings is available which helps consumers and decision makers at all levels of awareness and expertise to make informed decisions on energy efficient practices. Operated by the UK's Buildings Research Establishment (BRE).
- United Nations Environment
Program (International)
- The UNEP Collaborating Centre on Energy and Environment supports the
United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in pursuing its aim of
incorporating environmental aspects into energy planning and policy
world-wide, with special emphasis on developing countries.
- World Energy Efficiency Association(International)
- The World Energy Efficiency Association (WEEA) was founded in June 1993 as a private, non-profit organization composed of developed and
developing country institutions and individuals charged with increasing
energy efficiency. WEEA:
- assists developing countries in accessing information on energy
efficiency,
- serves as a clearinghouse for information on energy efficiency programs,
technologies and measures,
- disseminates this information worldwide, and
- publicizes international cooperation efforts in energy efficiency.
-
Specific information sources on this site include the
International Directory of Energy Efficiency Institutions,
an annual publication listing over 1300 organizations in 180 countries,
and the Internet Energy and Environment Sampler, an annotated resource book for electronic information on energy efficiency.
