Introduction

In the future, fluorescent lamps will be equipped with an electronic HF-ballast system replacing the previously used conventional electronic ballast. Using the same luminous flux, an electronic HF-ballast will reduce total electrical power consumption by approx. 25%. This in turn will reduce electrical power requirements and thus the environmental pollution produced by power stations. The lamp has brightness control, the so-called dimming, and can be operated by DC voltage, too. Therefore, the device can also be used in emergency lighting systems.

A new electronic HF-ballast system is presented for the operation of low-pressure discharge lamps (fluorescent lamps) supplying such lamps with a high-frequency current of approx. 40 kHz. (...)
