Recent Trend in Energy Use for Lighting in Japan Faculty of Engineering, Setsunan University, Japan Masata Oki Faculty of Engineering, Ashikaga Institute of Technology, Japan Tesuo Yamaya College of Industrial Technology, Nihon University, Japan Akio Funaoka Center for Future Energy Utilization, Tokyo Electric Power Co., Japan Abstract The Illuminating Engineering Institute of Japan (IEI-J) organized the Special Technical Committee of Effective Energy Utilization in Lighting in 1991 and made several surveys for almost two years. The aim of this committee was to have a better understanding of the present status of lighting technology in Japan especially from the view point of energy efficiency and then to seek and hopefully identify the direction of lighting research and technology, toward which we should take a step in the future. Twenty six members of IEI-J, whose expertise ranges from research to consulting, participated in the committee. This paper describes the results of the work done by this special committee (1). The following are some of the results.
