Introduction
The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) - a non-profit organization that offers research and development services to over 700 electric utility members - recently introduced five powerful computer applications to help lighting professionals and utility representatives design, audit, and evaluate lighting systems. Because lighting accounts for as much as 35% of commercially consumed electricity, widespread use of these tools will significantly increase the energy effectiveness of commercial buildings. To guide potential users, this paper presents an overview of the five programs: LightCAD_TM, the Lighting Rebate Entry program (LREP), the Building Energy Estimation Module (BEEM_TM), LightPAD_TM, and COMTECH_TM.
