Poul E. KristensenDaylight Europe 38, Teknikerbyen, Virum, Denmark Abstract Daylight research is a major topic at some 20 research institutes throughout the European Community. This EU project "Daylight Europe" under the JOULE II programme runs through 1994 -1997, and it is aimed at making the research results available to the practitioners of European building industry, the target audience being practising architects and engineers. The focus is on exploitation of daylight to reduce artificial lighting, however indoor visual comfort is also of prime importance. The actual performance of selected non-domestic buildings is being evaluated regarding energy performance and user reactions. The performance of the selected buildings is generalized through further modelling work with computer design tools. This will provide design data on the building performance with various fenestration and daylight control systems, and various design and control strategies of the artificial lighting systems. The main products of the project will be "Daylight Design Guidelines for Europe" and "Daylight buildings in Europe - Case studies.
