Energy Efficient Commercial Lighting in India: A Lighting Transformations Perspective

Abstract
Energy efficiency is a topic of paramount importance for India, where a population of more than 900 million people, rapid urbanization, rise of manufacturing and the emergence of a new middle class has driven an explosive increase in energy consumption.
Yet, India?s economic growth is hampered by severe electricity shortage and inefficient use of power. Lighting is no exception. This report reviews the current situation in the growing sector of commercial lighting. It discusses the barriers to energy efficient lighting and how they are being addressed. Finally, three market transformation recommendations are presented in detail.
