Abstract
Funded by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy, the aim of ?Leso-DIAL? is to give architects relevant information regarding their daylighting choices at the very first stage of the design process. Presented as a concept at the last Right-Light Conference in Newcastle (Paule et al. 1995), a first version has now been completed and is being tested by several architects and schools of architecture. The main outputs given by this tool are :

? Quantitative estimation (daylight factor, daylighting autonomy),
? Qualitative diagnosis (expert analysis based on fuzzy-logic rules).

The use of this tool does not require any learning time, and no specific knowledge on daylighting is required which means that it can be used and that the design decision can be taken within the architect?s office. The quickness of the whole procedure is particularly well adapted to carrying out parametric studies.
