Delivering energy efficiency & renewable energy
Working with local communities on schemes that encourage energy efficiency
and renewable energy is vital if Government environmental targets are
to be met. The Centre for Sustainable Energy is running a series of seminars
entitled 'Energy efficiency and renewable energy: involving communities'.
Aimed at people who are working to establish sustainable futures within
their local communities, the seminars will give those who work with such
groups a better understanding of establishing, encouraging and empowering
participation. The events will draw together the views of energy efficiency
and renewable energy specialists, allowing delegates to take away with
them solution-based ideas that are applicable to the challenges faced
by non-government organisations, local authorities, health workers, developers
and individuals alike.
The seminars cost £95 + VAT per delegate and will be held on:
3 May 2000, Create Centre, Bristol
10 May 2000, Nottingham County Football Club
17 May 2000, Civic Centre, Newcastle upon Tyne

Workshop on "Multiactor perspectives on Energy Consumption with a focus on Thermal Comfort"(Geneva, Switzerland)
March 19-20, 1999
After two initial workshops on the social and behavioural aspects of
consumption held in Geneva in 1995 and 1996 (1), and a special session on
"Changing Consumption Patterns" in the ESEE Conference in Geneva in 1998,
which contributed to the understanding of consumption as a complex
phenomenon, the time seems ripe to the organizers of the first two
workshops (the so-called Geneva group) to organize a workshop more
precisely focused on "Multiactor perspectives on energy consumption". It
has also been decided to try to focus on a specific area of consumption :
"Spatial thermal comfort", which should make it easier to compare different
methodologies and their results and perspectives.
The workshop should be of interest to behavioural scientists, sociologists,
economists interested in non standard analysis (like Girardian economics,
statistical mechanics approaches to socio-economic behaviour and so on) and
energy modellers. The workshop will be devoted to both qualitative and
quantitative types of analysis.
