Review
of relevant papersThe International Commission on Illumination (CIE) held its quadrennial session in Delhi November 1-8, 1995. The IAEEL and the CIE organised a Workshop on Energy and Lighting during this Session. The success of this workshop is a sign of growing interest in the energy aspects of lighting, which is clearly noticeable within the CIE. This growing interest is not only apparent from the workshop. Many other contributions to the Session showed recent new developments in energy efficient techniques, components and applications.
The IAEEL took up the task of scanning the proceedings on the issue of energy efficiency in conjunction with lighting and to extract relevant information. Results are published on this site to be accessed and assessed by all people sharing an interest in furthering energy efficient lighting components, systems, Design, implementation strategies, etc. Some 40 papers and posters were found to feature aspects of energy efficiency and are compiled in the review.
Cross cutting the proceedings of the 23rd session of the CIE revealed the existence of a triangle of interrelating key components of efficient lighting. These key components are perception, energy efficiency, and quality. Neither of these can be regarded separately and any shift in value of one of them will inevitably influence the other two.
This review encompasses an analysis of energy efficiency related contributions to the proceedings, founded on the triangle of key components of efficient lighting.
Furthermore, information is provided on the actual situation of energy efficient lighting in developing countries and countries in transition. Possibilities for implementing energy efficient lighting technology and systems as well as constraints encountered are reviewed.
The discerning reader will find ample openings for further discussion, extending liaisons, and new projects.
Pages of the proceedings of the 23rd Session in New Delhi where on the topic of energy efficient lighting can be found are indicated throughout the body of this review.
