IAEEL newsletter 2/92
Efficiency activities of the CIE The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) wants to place more emphasis on lighting and has instructed its Division 7 to set up a reporter function covering "lighting energy efficiency and environmental issues". One good example of CIE lighting efficiency activities is a new technical committee, "Energy Aspects of Lighting", that was formed after the CIE's Melbourne Meeting. Under the chairmanship of Mr Derek Carruthers (University of Western Australia), the Technical Committee TC 3-24 is studying the interaction between daylighting, electric lighting and energy use. According to the committee, it will "act as a focus for the collation of international research in this area". The committee members from Australia, Denmark, the Netherlands, Sweden, UK, and USA are planning to publish a report "giving guidance on measures which may be taken to improve energy efficiency without compromising lighting quality". Special attention will be paid to lighting controls and evaluating the use of daylighting.
