IAEEL newsletter 1/93
Electronic news on efficiency If you can connect your computer to the international E-mail system, you also can access Enews, a new international newsletter on energy efficiency issues in developing countries. (And if you can't, you can get a paper version!) Enews is published with financial support from the International Energy Initiative (IEI) and the University of Campinas in Brazil. One aim of Enews is to strengthen efforts to utilize developing countries' own resources, since "there exists in the developing countries most of the technical skills, and even the manufacturing capability, to implement a range of energy-efficient technologies that can improve energy services at a lower societal cost than supply-based options". The first issue was distributed in March 1993 and included an update on the World Bank Ilumex Project (see IAEEL newsletter 2/92), giving details on the various CFL pilot projects. The newsletter also included a short overview of the implications of the Rio '92 meeting, articles on co-generation in Cuba, a report on how a lighting project in Brazil helped make the public aware of the concept of energy efficiency as an alternative to the construction of new power plants, and other items. Enews is also implementing an electronic forum for discussion which will allow users to send messages to others on the list. To order an electronic subscription to the newsletter, send the following command from your system: 'MAIL listserv@fem.unicamp.br'. In the Subject space type: 'subscribe 1-enews |
