CIE committee with a focus on energy Lighting design and utilization patterns have a considerable impact on the overall use of energy in a building. However, there is limited understanding of how these factors interact in their effects on total energy use, and how they can be controlled. The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) has therefore formed a technical committee (TC 3-24) to address this problem with the aim to prepare a document describing the interrelations. The document is not meant to serve as another textbook but rather to clearly and concisely show how the building energy and lighting systems interact. The committee has started its work on the basis of a scheme that conceptually describes the different aspects involved. This scheme includes five major topics: Design, Environment, Day- and electric lighting, Control and maintenance, and Components. An extended outline of the document is available but much work remains to be done. The committee is looking for people with experience in the field of energy and lighting that are willing to contribute to the work. A good opportunity to learn about the work of TC 3-24 will be provided at the workshop organized by the IAEEL and TC 3-24 during the CIE 23rd Session in New Delhi in November.
