IAEEL newsletter 1/96

IAEEL/IAEEL.html

IAEEL is now available on the Internet. Visit the IAEEL Homepage to see for yourself how the value of the newsletter has been enhanced. The homepage also offers several features not available in the paper edition: The "Lighting Crossroads" resource list, a conference calendar, information about the core members, the beginnings of a library of background material for the newsletter, and a bulletin board with the hot news.

The backbone of the IAEEL Homepage is the newsletter, but don't worry, you are not holding the last paper issue of the IAEEL newsletter in your hand. There will be many more.

Just like the paper version of the newsletter, the electronic version can be read issue by issue. In addition, articles in all of the old issues, dating back more than four years, can be read or downloaded. Electronic publishing also offers additional advantages, which we now will pass on to our readers: For example, published articles have been sorted by subject (as well as by issue) so that the reader can carry out back-issue searches within a given topic area.

Another advantage of the electronic IAEEL newsletter is the possibility of establishing links among articles. For instance, someone reading the first article on the sulfur lamp, published in 1994, can now-with a click of the mouse- move directly to the present issue's update on sulfur lamp technology.

LIGHTING CROSSROADS
Lighting Crossroads is an index modeled after Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory's "Energy Crossroads" that can be used for locating other Internet resources on lighting. Lighting Crossroads points you to other listings of lighting resources on the Internet, and complements them by focusing on energy efficiency. Lighting Crossroads will be updated frequently. Please notify us of lighting sites that we should include.

A regularly updated version of the IAEEL readership map, published on the back cover of this issue, will also be available on the IAEEL Homepage. In addition, IAEEL's core members are presented on our homepage, including links to their own web sites.

CONFERENCES AND NEWSGROUP
By clicking on our conference calendar the reader will find, for example, the Right Light 4 call for papers. Moreover, we will not delete information on old conferences since space is not a problem. Thus, in addition to providing information on upcoming events, the calendar will evolve into a record of passed events. We hope that this will be useful for people who want to get hold of old conference proceedings, for example.

Eventually, we plan to set up a newsgroup, accessible from the homepage, where people will be able to comment on the newsletter or discuss other relevant topics.

Finally, we will address the need for timely announcements by posting them on the the IAEEL bulletin board.
