Lighting Initiative For Poor Countries

The Global Environmental Fund's Efficient
Lighting Initiative (ELI) will help focus industry
and consumer attention on energy-efficient
lighting in seven developing countries. The
project has US$15 Million of funding, which
should generate a much larger amount of
commercial-sector investments in the supported
countries.
South Africa and ELI:
Closing In On the Peaks

South Africa is launching a massive demand-side management program which seeks to reduce peak load by 2 500 MW. The efficient Lighting Initiative will do its share, aiming at a 700 - 800 MW peak load reduction.

Occupancy Sensor Winner
Offers Plug-and-Play

Wattstopper was recently announced as the winner of a tough occupancy sensor procurement competition arranged by the Swedish National Energy Administration. The winning sensor was not only the cheapest to install but also passed tough performance requirements. Their prize? An order for 20 000 units.

Rural PV Lighting
Self-Sustainable Market

Even poor rural consumers are willing to invest in small-scale PV lighting systems. The market for such systems is potentially huge since billions of people live in areas with dim prospects of being electrified in the foreseeable future. But the right equipment is still not available on the market.
