Green Light For Europe

Inspired by the success of the US Green Lights
Program (now to be integrated in the Energy Star
Buildings Program) the European Commission
has taken its first steps towards developing a
European version of the Green Light program.
Lighting Quality Links
Productivity and Efficiency

To large-scale experiments offer evidence that
when carefully designed, energy-efficient lighting
can be of high quality. The research also implies
that individual control can be energy-efficient -
a hypothesis poorly supported by solid research
data up until now.

Leadership by Example in
Energy Management

The United States spends a whopping $ 10-20
bilion per year on energy-consuming equipment,
plus an additional $ 4 bilion per year on energy in
the non-defense sector. Governments often
encourage the citizenry to save energy. But, do
they practoce what they preach?

Individual Control
Can Be Energy Efficient

The NRC Lighting Quality Research Project
indicates that individual choice in lighting not only
conformed with standards and guidelines but
tended to increase user satisfaction as well.
Moreover, many participants made choisces that
led to lower energy consumption.
