Versatile ballast A new ballast design from the UK firm EnLight promises a ballast that can drive any fluorescent lamp, regardless of power and type. In fact, the totally digital ballast can driveŠand dimŠup to four lamps, in different combinations, as long as the total power is less than 200W. Moreover, the ballast is claimed to operate on AC or DC voltage between 90 and 265V, which would make it attractive in countries or regions with unstable power grids. EnLight claims the ballast has 60% fewer components than a standard electronic ballast, representing a significant potential for reductions in production costs. The ballast has won a number of international awards, and EnLight is currently discussing commercialization of the technology with potential partners. (Source: Lighting Equipment News) |
