IAEEL newsletter 1-2/00

Editor's Corner

It is nice to be able to bring our readers a new issue of the newsletter. The reason for publishing so few issues in year 2000 is as unfortunate as it is tedious: finances. IAEEL is dependent on government funding, and despite the high profile of environmental issues and energy efficiency, resources to activities such as the IAEEL newsletter have become scarcer. Nevertheless, we are forging on in our ambitions to give you an informative and rich newsletter.

The current issue is the thickest ever published, actually the size of two normal issues. I am also glad to be able to distribute the special lighting issue of the Caddett newsletter with this issue, due to the kind support of Novem in the Netherlands. Together, we offer you almost 60 pages of reading on lighting efficiency.

In this issue, we continue to look into fuel-based lighting. The financial and environmental implications of the very inefficient fuel-based solutions deserve both attention and action.

We are also happy to publish an update on the CFL markets again. From contacts with readers, I know this information is valuable.

Another fascinating piece is on the Market-Wash program in Thailand. It is encouraging to see how voluntary agreements could achieve such a drastic change in a country's lighting market.

Happy reading!
