IAEEL newsletter 4/96
Editor's Corner
In this issue of the IAEEL newsletter, our focus is on residential lighting in Europe. The European focus is a coincidence:
A new, interesting study was recently completed at the same time as the European lighting industry launched a new product of great relevance to the lighting and energy community.
The guest article by Jane Palmer sums up a very interesting study on residential lighting in Europe Đ the DELight report. As a service to our readers we have made the whole report available on the IAEEL web site.
The feature article on the new mains-voltage halogens illustrates how a small shift in technology can have a strong impact on aggregate energy use, with far-reaching economic consequences. We know that many trends tend to spread once they have gotten a foothold in one part of the world, and it would be a pity if the development would go in the direction of less efficient technologies when there are better alternatives. We donŐt claim that this development necessarily will come true, but if the article could provoke some discussion we would be happy.
It was fun gathering information for the light levels article. Although the light level is just one parameter in lighting design, it is still of great importance. We have found the variation in recommended illuminance levels to be very fascinating!
Finally, the new ballast by HBI is exciting. Will it become a marketing success? Only the future will tellÉ
