Rutten Eindhoven University of Technology, The Netherlands Summary Starting from the existing knowledge on daylight availability in The Netherlands, the author has studied the possible energy conservation of a number of strategies to control supplementary artificial lighting installations. On that basis Dutch office buildings will have an energy saving potential of 30% of the electric energy consumption. Energy saving in Dutch school rooms should mainly be achieved by the discipline of the school staff.
