Energy Saving Lighting in Russia

J.B. Aizenberg
VNISI, Russia

Summary

The objective of saving energy in lighting installations is of great importance in Russia and other countries of the former USSR, because more than 13% of total generated electric power, i.e. more than 220 TWh per year, is spent on illumination there.

The report characterizes up-to-date lighting installations and gives an analysis of the main means for saving electric power. Gains caused by improvements of lighting methods and installations maintenance are discussed and associated quantitative assessments are presented.

The total electric power consumed by lighting installations in Russia can be lowered by 50% compared with today's level.
