Vattenfall AB, Energieffektivisering, Sweden

Summary

Through the Company's Uppdrag 2000 (Assignment 2000) project, Vattenfall has for a number of years been studying opportunities to increase the efficient utilization of energy in the home, non-electricity-intensive industries and other premises. The overall results from Uppdrag 2000 project show that ten percent of all electricity in Sweden, can be saved.

During the autumn of 1991, the operations of Vattenfall Energy Efficiency were launched at Energy & Technology Fair in Älvsjö, Sweden. Among the visitors to the Fair was Håkan Zettergren, Production Director at Fori. He ordered an energy study of his facility from Vattenfall Energy Efficiency.

The study included:

  • total electricity measurement

  • lighting

  • compressed-air analysis

  • electrical motor analysis

  • steam studies

The energy study and a recommended action program indicated that substantial savings could be gained through the implementation of relatively simple measures withing the following areas:

  • lighting: The installation of a timer in "the tower" wouldd save 160 Mwh/year, or about SEK 41700

  • the compressed-air system: Airtight sealing would save 117 Mwh/year, corresponding to SEK 38000.

Vattenfall Energy Efficiency was commissioned to install the timer and the actual saving was as much as 196 Mwh/year corresponding SEK 51000.
