The Role of a Regional Electricity Company in Marketing Low Energy Lighting in Great Britain Northern Electric, UK Introduction Each year in Britain, over £2,000 million is spent on electricity for lighting. The potential exists, using today's technology, to reduce this annual bill by £750 million. This action alone would go a long way towards achieving the UK commitment to the climate Change Convention in Rio de Janeiro. Naturally such a reduction in energy would take many years to engineer and would require a significant change in outlook by all the parties involved. This paper provides a background to the issues which will either encourage or inhibit a UK Regional Electricity Company in the promotion and marketing of low energy lighting.
