Abstract In this work the author wants to share the experiences and results obtained by FIDE (Trust fund for support the Energy Saving Programme of the Electric Sector), from 73 energy saving demonstrative projects in which lighting was made more efficient in Commerces including 11 supermarkets, 7 department stores and Servicies like 3 restaurants, 15 hotels, 22 buildings, 12 health and educational facilities and 3 other services including a bowling, a sporting club and a parking lot. In the course of our work, during the past four years, we took into consideration a broad range of matters such as the importance and relation of lighting to other electrical systems, the savings that were possible to obtain compared with investments required, payback periods, technology evolution, marketing sales techniques to convince clients, financial limitation, human factors, low quality of electric facilities and control strategies, among other factors. Electrical cost reductions of 20% to 60% were obtained through lighting energy saving projects.
