Abstracts

When the Danish electric utilities in the mid-80ies started offering consultancy on rational use of electricity it was a task which the utilities were not accustomed to and which they had not previously performed. Consultancy to major industrial and commercial companies and public institutions were in particular something completely new.
As in many other countries the electric utilities in Denmark had a consultancy service for residential customers on the choice of appropriate electrical appliances and the handling of these appliances. To serve industrial and public customers the electric utilities had to establish an energy consultancy. It was, therefore, necessary to analyse the various customer categories to find the relevant energy savings.
Today all Danish electric utilities offer energy consultancy to their industrial customers and the electric utilities cooperate on many levels with regard to training of energy consultants and establishment of tools for energy consultancy and energy management. The energy consultants visit the customers and go over, together with the representatives of the customers, all the customers' installations. After the audit they forward a report on the saving possibilities to the customer. The electric utilities also offer to help the customers realise the wanted savings, against payment. The energy consultants furthermore offer to assist the customers with energy management to enable a continuous reduction of the energy consumption over a number of years.
