IAEEL newsletter 1/92
California Compact
The California Compact is a working group composed of representatives from Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, Los Angeles Department of Water & Power, Natural Resources Defense Council, Pacific Gas & Electric, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, San Diego Gas & Electric, and Southern California Edison.
According to the working group's newsletter Compact News (1/91) it has one overriding mission - to improve energy efficiency in residential lighting. To reach this goal, the California Compact will be active mainly in the following five areas:
-
Programme design: Regular meetings on design, evaluation, marketing, and product selection. Maximally effective state-wide efforts to promote the retail sale of efficient residential light bulbs and fixtures.
- Technical issues, such as developing a schedule for notifying manufacturers of a "preferred products standard".
- Market stimulation: Provide advance notice to lighting manufacturers about programmes, and stimulate manufacturers to expand production capacity.
- Application guide-lines: Develop materials to help energy professionals, practitioners and consumers choose among available products.
- Communication/networking, of which the quarterly newsletter Compact News is a part. A conference was held in October 1991.
The California Compact currently consists only of California organizations, but welcomes and encourages the participation of utilities or non-profit lighting specialists from other regions.
